TheEnrightHouse

biography

The Enright House is a sleepy bedroom operation, armed with drum machines, 80's synths, and guitars, the latter of which are typically manipulated with bows, screws, bottle caps, copper wire, fans, stainless steal picks, some love, some violence, and a handful of derelict effects. The Enright House is currently based in Christchurch, New Zealand. ---------- The Enright House is heavily and happily influenced by 20th century classical music and modern popular artists, often lumped together into genres, such as post-rock, indie rock, soundscape experiments, wave, EBM, et cetera. Cultural evolution involves lateral and linear influences and, as such, it is futile and counterproductive to hide and rationalize oneself out of openly acknowledging this simple fact. The Enright House does not exist in isolation, and does not believe it's creative efforts are trivialized by consciously drawing from the efforts of other human beings and their traditions, past and present. ---------- Some of the many artists whom the Enright House owes a great debt to are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Mogwai, Sonic Youth, Explosions in the Sky, La Monte Young, Blonde Redhead, William Basinski, Daniel Lenz, Leaether Strip, Shellac, The Books, Slowdive, Rachel's, Ben Gibbard's beautiful voice and lyrics, Jakob, Gyorgy Ligeti, M83, My Bloody Valentine, Sigur Ros, Tortoise, Steve Reich, The Pixies, Gavin Bryars, Philip Glass, Arvo Part, Henryk Gorecki, Pinback, Annea Lockwood, Bauhaus, Stars of the Lid, Kraftwerk, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Slint, and so many others. ---------- For more info and more songs at higher bitrates visit www.theenrighthouse.com.

Genres

July 30th, 2006 + 2:07 AM  ·  TheEnrightHouse

Hey,

The one thing I really miss, is some way to browse music by genres. I.e. I'm not interested in Singer-songwriter kind of material, so I don't really feel like I should be reviewing it, as I don't feel very objective, and am just not interested in commenting on music that is part of a genre I care very little about. Without genres I just have to browse and browse, wasting time, until I find something I like enough to review (as I don't see the point reviewing music that is part of an aesthetic one knows very little about) - i.e. what's the point of someone who loves DnB to review a classic rock song? Plus, it would just make it so much easier to find more music one actually identifies with.

Also, this being called bandamp, are there actually any bands here at all, or is this really more a singer-songwriter + midi tracks kind of community?

All the best,
M.
